Welcome to UCI. We are delighted that you selected our campus to continue
your college studies and we are confident that while here you will embark
on an exciting road of discovery.
Your time at UCI will seem all too short, so I urge you to work quickly to
take advantage of all that we offer: transfer seminars, your own lounge,
study abroad, internships in Washington D.C. or Sacramento, and research.
If any of these opportunities interest and excite you, begin exploring
them soon so that you can fit them into your busy schedule. Take advantage
too of your academic counselors who are prepared and eager to help guide
your way.
We hope you find the pursuit of your educational goals to be exciting and

Dean, Division of Undergraduate Education
As dean of undergraduate education, Salinger oversees campuswide programs and provides leadership in developing policies and programs affecting student retention, course offerings, academic advising and mentoring, and the campus climate for teaching and learning.
In addition to her role as dean, Salinger holds a professorship in the history department and continue her research, which focuses primarily in early American social history. She is the editor of a book and author of two more, including most recently Taverns and Drinking in Early America, which chronicles the ways in which the tavern preserved traditional privileges.
Salinger, who received her bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in history from UCLA, travels to the East Coast to conduct research in the summer and jokes that she times her trips with garbage strikes and high humidity. She enjoys playing the bassoon and resides in University Hills.
